Day one of Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell&rsquo;s testimony in Washington <span class='nt-symbol'>DC<\/span> did little to move the markets, especially with fresh commentary on the economy\/monetary policy just last week at the FOMC meeting. Powell told the Senate Banking committee today, &#8220;with our policy stance now significantly less restrictive than it had been and the economy remaining strong, we do not need to be in a hurry to adjust our policy stance.&#8221; Powell added, &#8220;we know that reducing policy restraint too fast or too much could hinder progress on inflation. At the same time, reducing policy restraint too slowly or too little could unduly weaken economic activity and employment&rdquo;. Powell speaks again tomorrow in Capitol Hill. The other major news item tomorrow is the January consumer price index (<span class='nt-symbol'>CPI<\/span>) which is expected to hold near the prior month levels for headline and core. Earnings season remains busy, with 65% complete for the quarter, heading into big week for Utilities, Healthcare and REITs. In stock news, <span class='nt-symbol'>META<\/span> posts its 17<sup>th<\/sup> consecutive day of gains while <span class='nt-symbol'>TSLA<\/span> tumbles for the 5<sup>th<\/sup> straight day (down -16% during stretch). Big movers to the upside on earnings were <span class='nt-symbol'>KO<\/span>, <span class='nt-symbol'>SHOP<\/span> and <span class='nt-symbol'>SLQT<\/span> while big decliners on earnings\/guidance included <span class='nt-symbol'>ACLS<\/span>, <span class='nt-symbol'>ALAB<\/span>, <span class='nt-symbol'>AMKR<\/span>, <span class='nt-symbol'>COTY<\/span>, <span class='nt-symbol'>FIS<\/span>, <span class='nt-symbol'>FLNC<\/span>, <span class='nt-symbol'>HLIT<\/span> and many others. &nbsp;Tariff headlines weighed on markets overnight after President Trump is now proposing 25% tariffs on all aluminium imports. <\/p>\n<div class=\"page-br mt-8\">\n<p class=\"subhead\">Commodities<\/p>\n<ul style=\"margin-bottom:0\">\n<li class=\"page-br\">Oil prices climbed $1.00, or 1.4% to settle at $73.32 per barrel and Brent $1.13 or 1.49% to settle at $77 per barrel, both at two-week highs, as sanctions raised concerns about Russian and Iranian oil supplies, outweighing worries escalating trade tariffs would boost inflation and dampen global economic growth. U.S. oil production is poised to set a larger record this year than prior estimates, the EIA said on Tuesday. Front Month Nymex Natural Gas Rose 2.18% to Settle at $3.5190.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<ul style=\"margin-top:0\">\n<li class=\"page-br\">April gold slips -$1.80 to settle at $2,932.60 an ounce, down from all-time high of $2,968.50 an ounce this week, but remains in upward momentum move over the last few months.
